Module 1 - Physical Interaction: Input Data

Nicole Ocampo

Weekly Activities

Our first project introduced our class to physical computing tools and data sensors while encouraging exploration through conceptual methodologies. Over three weekly activities, we learned the fundamentals of the Arduino and how it can work with Protopie and Touch Designer to create innovative and artistic products. After exploring these materials, I worked with a group to research emerging technology trends to foster inspiration for our final concept.

Activity 1 - Arduino Introduction

Understanding make the Arduino to create a blinking LED light Learning how to use a resistor Turning on 2 LED lights Changing LED light by clicking a button LED lights turn on at different times

Activity 2 - Protopie and Arduino

Temperature data shown on arduino serial monitor Activity set up Transfering data to Protopie through the Arduino plugin Increasing the humidity by putting my finger on the Arduino sensor Adjusting the room's temperature by rotating the Arduino dial

Activity 3 - Touch Designer

The numerical data shown in Touch Designer is being affected by me rotating the Arduino dial I explored the different tools in Touch Designer Increasing the size of a sphere using the Arduino dial I changed the sphere's apperance by giving it a soft gradient I tried another type of gradient, which caused a 'stripes effect'

The Furry Health Companion

Project 1 Concept

Our material and online exploration guided us in narrowing our focus toward a design concept centered on making healthcare more approachable, playful, and humane. From our two final ideas, my group is currently leaning toward the concept of creating a furry medical companion. Most of our Peers really liked this concept and felt it would be very useful for both children and adults. To ensure this is the right direction, our team is discussing key factors such as roles, materials, and timelines.
